Professor Sterne’s talk is titled "Audile Scarification: Notes on the Normalization of Hearing Damage".  Following the talk, there will be a reception hosted by the Collection of Historical Scientific Instruments in connection with the new exhibit Radio Contact.

Jonathan Sterne’s work is concerned with the cultural dimensions of communication technologies, especially their form and role in society. One of his major ongoing projects involves developing the history and theory of sound in the modern west. He covers an impressively wide range of topics in media history, new media, cultural theory and disability studies.
